Photography Research: Peter Hurley

In this post I will look at another headshot photographer and few of his portraits to deepen my knowledges. Peter Hurley is a headshot photographer based in New York, who is known for good catching of people's emotions and setting people in different environments. He also teaches other people on how to make good headshots and promotes that all the people can look good in front of the camera. The only thing they need to know is how to recognise their better side, how to adjust their hair, light and angle of the camera (Hurley, 2019).

I went to his own website in order to know more about his portfolio and style of work. I picked couple of his portraits which I want to analyse.

In the photo above we see a dancer who is captured while moving. The photographer managed to create feeling of power here because it seems that he is running towards us. The posture is also working good, the lightning creates a shadow from him which also emphasises his power.

Here we can see the whole composition set somewhere in the forest which looks artistic and shows us an actor inside the circumstances. We can clearly see emotion of angriness and composition is aimed to show the whole picture, not only the portrait of an actor. This is a good idea which is useful for actors because casting agents can see them not only in studio but also in some roles or other circumstances.
