Creating an Advert: Ideas, Planning & Research

I decided to create my own advertisement connected with my specialism in performing arts. I thought about making it for my own movie. The Disney cartoon "Moana" was the first that came to my mind as an inspiration. I definitely decided to make something connected with the ocean. However, it wasn't enough to have just this idea so I went to do a deeper research. I looked for another movies posters in order to see what I like, what I don't like, what can I get from them and what I want to have in my own one.

Moana DVD Poster

I decided to call my movie "Ocean treasures", therefore the genre is an adventure, family movie with notes of comedy. The key feature of the poster will be ocean as a main story is based on it. Also I would like to make it more as light, adventurous and relaxing but not dramatic, dark or horror. I browsed for some pictures of ocean and movie posters.

Oceana                                     National Geographic Kids: Ocean habit

The above pictures gave me an idea to set as a major picture a wave approaching to the beach and then to put the name of the movie, date of release and creators' names on it.

                                                                                                                 Ocean

From these 3 pictures I took an idea about what kind of person and other ocean creature I will include in my poster.

Avatar                   The Shape of Water (2017)

I liked the above posters because of their minimalistic design and great graphic job. However, I decided not to take anything from them as their colours are quite dark telling that there will be some dramatic or mysterious in those movies, as I mentioned before my one is different from this.

                                          Finding Nemo                                           H2O

The next two posters of "Finding Nemo" and "H2O" are more suitable to the idea of mine as they are light, easy-going and hilarious. Particularly from the first poster "Finding Nemo" I want to take an idea with adding a phrase to the title using a small font. I will add "In search of" before so it should be like this - "in search of Ocean Treasures".

For now, I have all my ideas sorted in my imagination and in the next post I will show how I create an advert.

  1. I absolutely love the idea of a poster, the pictures you chose and the fonts you used. The only thing I would like to change - is just make the main title slightly bigger and more noticeable. Very nice!

  2. You still need to add advert research with references and citation
